Poco antes del mediodía de ayer, la ruta D-43, que une a Ovalle y la Serena, conocida como la Ruta de la Muerte, cobró una nueva vida.Aldo Berríos Arredondo, de 52 años, ejecutivo del banco Santander Santiago, se dirigía desde Ovalle en dirección al norte a bordo de su automóvil, una camioneta Chevrolet Luv roja, del año, placa patente BL KS 50, cuando, al ingresar en el sector de la cuesta Las cardas, por causas que aún se investigan, perdió el control del móvil en la segunda curva de sur a norte, lo que provocó que el vehículo se desbarrancara alrededor de ochenta metros hacia la quebrada.El accidente fue observado por conductores que circulaban por el lugar, los que dieron pronto aviso a la policía y a Bomberos, quienes llegaron al lugar del accidente con sus vehículos de rescate, al igual que personal del Samu de Ovalle, con la finalidad de salvar la vida del conductor del vehículo siniestrado.Sin embargo, y tras múltiples maniobras efectuadas por los efectivos de emergencia, Aldo berríos dejó de existir, pasadas las 13:00 horas, producto de múltiples traumatismos, lo que originaron que desde un comienzo perdiera la conciencia, lo que lo habría imposibilitado, en primera instancia zafarse del cinturón de seguridad que mantenía abrochado.Según versiones preliminares emitidas por bomberos -acudieron voluntarios tanto de Ovalle como de Coquimbo- la causa basal del accidente puede haberse originado en el exceso de velocidad con que el conductor tomó la curva, dándole muy poco margen para maniobrar el vehículo en forma correcta, además del hecho de que la curva donde se produjo el accidente carece de barreras de contención.El cuerpo de la infortunada víctima fue sacado del vehículo tras la llegada de personal de la Siat de Carabineros, momentos más tarde.
